Thailand is often known as “the Kitchen of the World.” With its abundance of fresh ingredients, local produce, herbs, spices, and flavors, it’s no surprise that delicious food can be found almost everywhere — and at almost any time of day!
This is your chance to discover Thailand through food, just as the locals do. Food is one of the best ways to understand a culture, and every dish, ingredient, and local market has a story to tell.
We’ll take you to a lively street-food market that is popular with local Thai people rather than tourists. Here, you can taste a variety of authentic Thai dishes while also experiencing the everyday lifestyle of an old Bangkok community.
Your Experience
10:00 – Meet at BTS Wutthakat
We’ll meet at BTS Wutthakat (S11), Exit 4, and take a short ride on a unique local public vehicle that operates mainly within this area.
After about 15 minutes, we’ll begin our walk at Wat Intharam, an important local temple with unique traditions and rituals. You’ll have a chance to learn about the beliefs and traditions that are still part of everyday life in this community.
From there, we’ll continue through a lively morning fresh market, where local people come to shop for ingredients for their daily meals.
Along the way, we can stop at a traditional Chinese-style coffee shop that has been serving the local community for almost 100 years. It’s a favorite gathering place for older residents — almost like a local morning parliament, where people sit together, chat, debate, and catch up on the latest news!
As the morning gets later, the market begins to change. Vendors start packing up, cleaning their stalls, and getting ready to head home. This is a wonderful time to see another side of local market life and discover the many fresh ingredients used in Thai cooking.
We’ll then wander through the small lanes and hidden corners of an old Chinese-Thai community, away from the usual tourist routes.
Eventually, we’ll arrive at a local ready-to-eat food market, where the fun really begins!
Take your time to explore and try a variety of Thai street food — both savory and sweet. You can choose whatever catches your eye and discover some local favorites along the way.
After our street-food adventure, we’ll also introduce you to a traditional Thai snack once served in the Royal Palace, at a restaurant recommended by Michelin.
Once we’ve enjoyed our food, we’ll continue exploring the neighborhood on foot for about 20 minutes before reaching a beautiful 69-meter-tall golden Buddha, peacefully sitting beside the canal.
